Hi I’m Dr. Corey Emmanuel and I am really here to just rave about Dr. Loren Hill of The Acclivity. She has been essential in helping me in my post-doctoral academic career. She helped me not only advance my CV but my statement of teaching, my statement of diversity, my cover letter.
Anyone who is finishing grad school, transitioning, trying to figure out what their next academic career move is, should absolutely call upon Dr. Hill. I look forward to just having her as part of my group of champions and people who understand me.
As a psychologist, as an African-American, it’s very important when you’re trying to navigate your post academic career to have someone who understands you and has done the steps and done all of the things, that she can really speak to your goals and what it is you’re trying to achieve in a way that is actually achievable. So I highly recommend Dr. Hill and I look forward to continuing to just be part of her circle as a fellow academic professional.
In my position as a Core Faculty Professor in the Department of Applied Clinical Psychology at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, I have had the opportunity to observe and interact with Dr. Loren Hill in a variety of contexts, including mentor and colleague, and have consistently been impressed by her tremendous interest, enthusiasm and academic excellence in psychology and psychotherapy. Dr. Hill has always displayed an exceptional ability to interact empathically with those around her. Further, I have observed that she possesses the necessary qualities required for anyone working in the healing professions, including high personal integrity, excellent conscientious work habits and clinical ethics. All of these characteristics were strongly displayed during the years that I worked with her at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, and continue to be so within our current professional relationship. In 2018, I was promoted to the position of Full Professor at The Chicago School. It is no exaggeration to state that the reason for this promotion stemmed from Dr. Hill! She strongly encouraged me to seek this promotion – she wouldn’t take “no” for an answer! — and even guided me along the several intricate steps needed in order to achieve this goal. I will forever be grateful to Loren for giving me the necessary “kick” that launched my direction toward full professor. It remains my privilege to be in regular ongoing contact with Dr. Hill, during which we discuss such topics as academia and psychotherapy practice, and assist one another in further developing within the psychology field. I consider her to be a trusted professional within the psychological field, and am honored to be her friend and colleague.
Dr. Hill is a thoughtful and strategic leader. I was directly supervised by her at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology when she served as Department Chair of the Forensic Clinical Psychology program. Dr. Hill encourages supervisee’s professional growth by supporting their advancement within the institution. Under her guidance, I created several award-winning service-learning projects that assisted students in making connections between psychological theory and the practice of community mental health. She was also instrumental in bringing a diverse group of clinicians, academicians, and community advocates to campus to discuss issues of importance to revising the APA guidelines for professional practice with sexual minorities. Dr. Hill was also a strong advocate and mentor for students, encouraging student scholarship as research and teaching assistants. Recently, she has been a popular guest speaker in several of my courses, offering insight and helpful tips to those seeking careers in academia. I highly recommend her!
Dr. Loren Hill was a wise and patient advocate who helped me at several steps along the way – and I, of course, got the promotion!
I have known Dr. Hill for over a decade, and in that time, she has been a colleague, mentor, and supervisor to me. In each of these roles, I have observed Dr. Hill to be consistently honest, hardworking, personable, and innovative. She is a one-of-a-kind leader.
I am encouraged by Dr. Hill’s readiness and towering abilities to work with individuals and communities alike, whether she teaches and advises in the sacrosanct ivory towers of academia, or in those common, coarse venues–the streets–where real life is often transacted well before it arrives at, or is translated in, the psychologist’s office.
Her [Dr. Loren M Hill] enthusiasm and energy are contagious. That is important. Equally important is the respect that Dr. Hill enjoys among faculty from many academic programs in Southern California.
Dr. Hill breathed new life into my career at a time when I felt lost and trampled by academia. Her ability to understand my unique role in higher ed as a practitioner-scholar was so integral to the success of our work together. During the pandemic, I lost a lot of time, energy, and send of clarity and hope related to my work. Her skill set and background as a psychologist makes a real difference as a coach who can support the whole academician on our promotion and career development journeys. She was also a joy to work with, and she knows what she’s doing! You won’t regret investing in yourself and your career in eliciting her expertise!
If you’re at all considering making a move to teaching in higher ed, you can only benefit from working with Dr. Loren Hill. Her level of expertise is impressive and I learned a lot from her years of experience. I’m much better prepared for a competitive higher education hiring market. I can highly recommend Dr. Hill’s services!
