Anytime is the perfect time for you to prepare for your annual performance review by doing a mid-year review. Many of us are familiar with performance reviews that occur each year. But how many of us are familiar with mid-year faculty reviews? Consider this, when we are teaching, we regularly evaluate our student’s performance by providing them with mid-term feedback and at the end of the term, they receive their final grade.

Our familiarity with the mid-term course review perspective provides us with a framework and skills to critically analyze performance and provide feedback at macro and micro levels.

With this in mind, this is a perfect time to apply your skills to conduct your personal career mid-year review. By incorporating this practice now, you will be able to gradually review what is helping or hurting your career advancement. Make sure that you take time to reflect on your accomplishments because many of us tend to minimize or overlook our contributions. And as an added bonus, you will be able to present the work you’ve done to your department chair when your annual review comes up in May or June.
